Application for Predoctoral Candidates

All predoctoral slots for the current year, September 2009 – August 2010, are filled.  Please check back in the spring of 2010

The UW Cardiovascular Research Center Training Program in Translational Cardiovascular Science announces the availability of predoctoral trainee positions at the University of Wisconsin-Madison for individuals whose research interest is in cardiovascular science. This is a federally funded (NIH/NHLBI) training program. Predoctoral research training is for individuals who have a baccalaureate degree and are enrolled in a doctoral program leading to a Ph.D. or a comparable research doctoral program. Start dates for predoctoral positions are flexible but cannot start until September 1, 2009. Funding is available for either early or late career graduate students. Funding may be renewed for a second year, depending on availability of funds and evidence of research progress.

The UW Cardiovascular Research Center houses a wide range of cardiovascular science research. The three focus areas of this training program are heart failure/contractility, ion channels/arrhythmia, and vascular biology/disease.

In order to be eligible for the program, a prospective trainee must be enrolled in a degree-granting program for a predoctoral training slot at the University of Wisconsin. These are generally in the departments of Physiology or Pharmacology. Candidates must be nominated by a UW Cardiovascular Research Center Trainer. A complete list of faculty trainers and their research interests can is listed under Faculty Trainers. Trainees who complete this program are awarded a “Certificate in Translational Cardiovascular Sciences.”

Trainees must be U.S. citizens or a non-citizen national or have been lawfully admitted for permanent residence to the U.S. to be considered for this training grant.

To apply for this program, please provide the following information:

  1. Graduate School application (completed at the time of entry)
  2. General Application Form (contact UW Cardiovascular Research Center)
  3. Up-to-date transcript of graduate coursework
  4. Statement of career goals (1-2 pages)
  5. Curriculum vitae
  6. Cover letter from mentor/trainer explaining interest and potential in cardiovascular science

Application for Postdoctoral Candidates

This is a federally funded (NIH/NHLBI) training program. Postdoctoral positions are available for both post-MD and post-Ph.D. candidates. Start dates of positions are flexible, but cannot commence until September 1, 2009. Funding may be available for a second year, depending on availability of funds and evidence of research progress.
