Basic and clinical faculty in the cardiovascular sciences collaborate on exciting new clinical research projects which include educational programs involving patients, practicing physicians, medical students and physicians training in subspecialties.
The University of Wisconsin has many experts who study the population to determine trends in cardiovascular disease, to identify new risk factors and to find new ways to prevent this disease. These experts develop interventions and educational programs aimed at influencing people's health behaviors. Scientists in areas such as prevention, epidemiology, statistics, medicine, cardiology and primary care all work together in research on the prevention of cardiovascular disease.
Many researchers, educators, clinicians and administrators work together to improve preventive services. Researchers from a number of centers across the UW campus also collaborate on studies to reduce cardiovascular disease and on programs to educate people about avoiding complications due to cardiovascular disease.
Research is ongoing in a wide range of areas related to prevention of cardiovascular disease, from population studies to basic research. Research now underway include studies on cholesterol levels and treatment, treatment of hypertension, exercise studies and obesity.
