Research Training in CIMT

This course is for sites wishing to perform CIMT studies at research institutions. For sponsors wishing to conduct multicenter studies or to use our core lab services, please contact Dr. James Stein directly. Training involves two full days. Both physicians and sonographers are strongly encouraged to attend. Participating sites must have a research protocol and an institutional review board (IRB), however IRB approval is not required. This is a hybrid learning course with web-based educational modules to be completed before the training and a series of live, in-person didactic lectures, demonstrations, and discussions that review all aspects of setting up a research CIMT program. The majority of the course is devoted to hands-on, supervised scanning and reading practice.

Topics include the scientific rationale for use of CIMT in a research setting, use of carotid ultrasound to identify subclinical atherosclerosis, scanning protocols, imaging pitfalls, instrumentation, study interpretation, and report generation. We also cover quality assurance, protocol selection, and sample size calculations.

The 2010 training dates in Madison, WI for sites using research studies are as follows:

April 16 – 17, 2010
August 6 – 7, 2010
