Carol K. C. Mitchell is Program Director of the School of Diagnostic Medical Sonography at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics. This program is affiliated with the College of Health Sciences at UW-Milwaukee, where she is an Assistant Clinical Professor. She is the Training Program Director for the UW AIRP and helps coordinate multicenter trials.
Background
Dr. Mitchell received her Baccalaureate Degree from the University of Iowa. She received her Masters Degree Master of Arts degree in Education with an emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Missouri in Kansas City and eventually received her Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Education from the same institution. Her doctoral research was entitled "The Path From An Occupation To A Profession: The Role of The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer."
She previously was employed as a Clinical Instructor in Diagnostic Medical Sonography in Ultrasound Education Department at the University of Iowa, after which she became Technical Director of Obstetric Sonography and Coordinator of Outreach Education at Saint Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. She also was Program Director of the Avila College Saint Luke's Hospital School of Diagnostic Medical Sonography from 1996-1999.
Dr. Mitchell is an active member for the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) and is a member of its Sonographer Training and Education Committee. She is a member of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine and the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
Research Interests
Dr. Mitchell's research interests include ultrasound assessment of atherosclerosis, vascular function, ultrasound education, and educational outcomes. She also participates in protocol development for several clinical trials and ultrasound disciplines.
